The Funky Couch Project!

This was the most fun project thus far. I know I say that about a project at least once a month, but this time I mean it. Again!

After recently inheriting an old, slightly dingy couch (no offense to the super awesome people who passed it on to us!), I decided to have a little fun with it. The couch is extremely soft and comfy, and is a beige cordoroy fabric. I wanted to give it some color and fun, as well as mask a few of the little tears and minor stains and fading. After digging through all my fabric, my sister’s fabric, and the thrift store fabrics, I settled on a bright lot of several different textiles and set out to ‘reupholster’.

The cushions were the easiest - you can easily unzipper and slip the cover off, sewing the patches directly on the cordoroy with a sewing machine. For the rest, I wanted it to look like it was sewn on, so I first sewed the edges of each patch with a different color and sized zigzag stitch. Then I glued the patch onto the area with extra strong fabric glue.

The colors and patches and shapes breathed new life into an old piece of furniture. The result is this colorful, funky, fun, and still completely comfortable couch. I love the style and warmth it brings to the room. Yay!
